Thinking of fatbikes, they aren’t just for snowy winter days. Never the less, the calendar quickly marches forward and soon we will find ourselves with conditions that are better suited to these wide tired mountain bikes than anything else. For those of you that are fat tire curious, we carry bikes from Specialized, Cannondale and DCO. DCO is a resident Canadian importer that has a monstrous fatbike. There are two models, using a 1x10 and a 2x10 gear setup. The bikes use a 100mm double-walled rim and a huge 4.9” tire. Aluminium frames and hydraulic brakes on both. These bikes retail for less than what you would expect to pay.
The days are about to get shorter and this means making sure that you’re visible on those early morning and evening rides. We’ve stocked up on some very efficient head and tail lights at a wide variety of prices. Most of them are USB chargeable. For those of you that commute in the early mornings, we do have arm and leg warmers available as well as other cool weather gear
As you might know, a helmet is only good for a set number of years. Usually between three and five years depending on how much exposure to the sun it’s had. This month we’ve put all in-stock Specialized helmets on sale for 20% off.
Our indoor trainers are now arriving. We carry everything from a budget friendly magnetic trainer for simple exercise, all the way up to easy-to-set-up smart trainers that will allow you to join your friends on Zwift. What’s Zwift? The happy guy in the picture above, wearing a complete head to toe Trek kit while riding his Specialized S-works, is online. Zwift is a training program that uses a “smart” indoor trainer to race and ride around a virtual video world. A smart trainer senses the terrain, creating greater resistance as you ride hills. Discover unlockable rewards as you play (Tron bike anyone?) and achieve various goals. There are many competitive events that you can enter, just as in real life. And, yes, there are runners too.
For those families than contain a scooter rider or two, we’ve just received a new line of stunt scooters from North Scooters. This Canadian scooter company makes an incredibly well built product at a very reasonable price. Even their opening price point scooter is built to endure the rigours of skatepark riding.
Thinking about cyclocross season, here’s this month’s feature bike. This is the ever popular Cannondale CAADX. This aluminium bike features a carbon fork and Cannondale’s SAVE antivibration system. Great for smoothing out the rough stuff. Shimano provides the drivetrain, specifically 10 speed Tiagra, being spun along by an FSA crankset. Schwalbe Rapid Rob tires are grippy and fast on a variety of surfaces. Brakes are from Promax. The rest of the component spec is Cannondale C4. Commuter? Rack mounts are provided.
