SUMMER INTO AUTUMN!

October 2017 Summer to Autumn Edition

I look at the calendar hanging on the wall of the Brantford Cyclepath yet again and can’t believe that we’re fast approaching the tail end of the year. It’s been a busy season for all of us here. We’ve been pairing many people up with new road and trail bikes and the good thing is, if you’ve yet to find a new one, we still have a solid selection of bikes to choose from, many at reduced prices.

As you know, another Tour De France is in the history books. Belated congratulations to Chris Froome for his three-peat and his fourth tour win. If you’d like to emulate the pros, we have a good selection of road bikes available for those great autumn weekend rides.

Verifying the current time of year, we’ve recently had customers in for fatbikes and have already needed to order more. Fatbikes from DCO and Specialized have now arrived, including a great selection of 3” plus bikes from Specialized, Cannondale and GT. The DCO fatbikes are fantastic. Aluminum frames, 4.8” tires on double walled 100mm wide rims, hydraulic brakes, and either a 1x10 or 2x10 drivetrain, depending on which model you buy. These fatties sell for way, way less than other brands. Don’t be fooled into thinking that these big wheels are strictly for the snow. Fatbikes are a blast to ride all year round.

We’ve also chosen DCO as the supplier for our children’s bikes. These bikes are not only great value for the money, DCO has absolutely nailed it in the paint and graphics department as well. We never rode bikes this good looking! Choose from any of the standard children’s wheel sizes including 12, 16, 20 and 24 inch. The 20” wheel is offered in both one speed coaster and geared.

Autumn is also a great time to take a relaxing cruise around the neighbourhood or visit a park or coffee shop. The Roll by Specialized is a really stylish bike for riding in just that manner. This bike borrows from everything. The handlebars are bmx influenced, the wide rims and 2.5” tires borrow from fatbikes and the saddle is styled for maximum support and comfort. This bike is very smooth, very comfortable and everything sits exactly where it needs to be. You owe it to yourself and come in and try one out. You can’t ride your carbon road racer to Dairy Queen with sandals on.....

A huge piece of news for the local cycling community is the construction of the new Rotary Bike Park. To say that this facility will be a constant hotbed of activity is a gross understatement. We’re expecting many, many locals to practically live there! It’s been shown that a community bike park really improves the skills of it’s users. This park is a family oriented park, with features designed for new riders to learn on, and advanced features for those ready to take their skill set to the levels that only a park like this can enable. As of this typing, park designer Jay Hoots has told us that we’re about 4 or 5 weeks away from go time. Volunteer help is always needed and in the later stages, locals will be needed to help “ride in” the various features.
So, what’s with the picture of the awesome dirt jumper with the blue wheels?  This Radio Fiend dirt jumping bike is now being raffled off by us, with 100% of the proceeds once again going towards the building of the park. We will be kicking in a second and third place prize drawing for a gift certificate and a helmet respectively as well. As you can see, tickets are $5 each, or 5 tickets for $20. Draw date is October 20th. The more tickets we sell, the more details the park will have! Let’s do this!

WIN EVEN MORE STUFF FOR FREE!!!! (and support some local businesses) Here’s another fun event on the calendar. It’s called the Brantford Business Crawl. It sort of reminds me of the International Villages, but faster. This year there are ten local businesses that are participating. Inspirational Hearts, Corr Blimey’s British Shop, Maria’s Pizza West Brant, MYRDH Dental Hygiene Spa, Urban Sunset Wine Company, Wylde Rose Handmade Soaps, Nu-U Float Studio, Strodes BBQ And Deli, The Olive Oil Company, and us, Brantford Cyclepath. Here’s how easy it is to win in-store prizes including a $1000 local shopping spree! Go to any one of those businesses and pick up a FREE passport. Get the passport punched in the correct spot for that store. Now go and visit the other nine businesses and get the passport punched each time. Each store has a unique punch. NO PURCHASES NECESSARY (although it would be great if you wanted to). When your passport is fully punched, just drop it off at the Brantford Meridian Credit Union Branch at 300 King George Road. That’s it!

Being that autumn is here and summer is a memory, it’s time for an end of season sale. You’ll find some great prices on bikes and accessories. Want something new? Many of out 2018 models are here. We’ve also restocked our cold weather gear. Everything from warm tights to cozy headgear, it’s all ready to buy.

It seems that we blinked and October showed up. Goodbye heat and humidity and hello brisk autumn rides through amazing fall foliage. Of course, October means Thanksgiving, and that means.....overeating! That’s a great excuse for grabbing some extra saddle time afterwards! That about wraps it up for this edition and Happy Thanksgiving to you all.
